Looks like I am in need of an update. Here is the story of my 1970 Corvette Convertible. I picked up the car in August 1998. I was 23, single again, and this was my only car. Within a month I made a road trip with a buddy to California. Probably not the smartest thing to do with a car that I had put less than 200 miles on, but it worked out fine. We had such a blast cruising down the I5 corridor from Seattle to LA with the top down.
Six months later I wrecked the car. I came around a corner too fast, fishtailed a few times and eventually slid sideways into oncoming traffic. I hit with the nose just in front of the front wheel then momentum kept me spinning and I hit again with the rear wheel. Here are a couple of pictures of the damage. ![]() ![]() It doesn't really look like it, but the insurance company paid over $12000 to fix it. The hood surround, front fender, front bumper, front inner fender, and rear fender were replaced. Just about the entire steering system including steering box was replaced and the rear trailing arm and strut rod were also replaced. Here are some pictures after the repairs. I added a big block hood and had the antenna removed. ![]() ![]() |
