Chapter Seven

The Interior

Phantom Gauges

You have already seen the Before pictures and now it is time to show you my head way. Here you see the carpet installed that I got from Zip. It fit remarkably well it was all custom moulded and fit right into place. The kit came with the door carpet and the pieces cut ready for the rear compartment lids, which as you will see I did not require. I then installed the comsoles and the custom oak trim I made for the shifter console. I took the emblem off the 77 sterring wheel and put it on the Grant Wheel that made it look better.

Here you see just how good the fit and finnish is. The only thing I had to do is cut the holes for the seat belts and seat mounts. It even came with the padding installed.

In this pic you see the rear compartment area. I have it wired to accept the amp and speaker box that I am going to build. You can also just make out the compartment lids I took all the carpet off of them and replaced them with more oak and are held in palce with brass screws. It looks good with the red carpet.

This is a pic I took of the seats before I had them reupholstered at a local upholstry shop. You can see how bad they were the prevous owner just bought covers for them instead of fixing them.

I had the door panels done at a local shop here in town and he managed to do a remarkable job. Then I made a Oak insert to match the rear doors and the console. And oh yes I almost forgot the pic's here are not up to date since they were taken I have updated my gauge package with new White face gauges that have a red glow at night. Be sure to check out the link above for more information.

I also had him do the seats and dash with all new foam. Because I am not trying to hide the fact that it is not a numbers matching car I had the 77 logo stiched into the head rests, after all they from the 77 parts car. I thought that and the aluminum pedals were a nice custom touch.

One of the hardest things about the interior was matching the color and pattern of the new vinyl I got pretty close but just to be sure I had a local paint shop mix me up some vinyl paint and I painted every thing the same color and noe you would never know some things were blue. Its realy too bad that you can't Feel the material that covers the seating surface because it looks and feels just like black suade.

All in all it turned out realy good I like the custom interior it gives a "presonality" to the car and If you think of it you spend a lot of time in the interior so it pays to spend some time on it.

This is the "form fitted" speaker box. This job takes a lot of patience but again it sure paid off now it looks like it was always there and I can still fit my tops behind the seats. See the plans!
