![]() This is my toy. It is a 90 Zr-1 and I've had it since 96. I bought it with 8000 miles. I've always had a pasion for vettes. My first was a 91 6spd. L98. I had the 91 for three years and did extensive engine mods, including Nitrous. Unfortunately the car got into a bad accident and I had to part with it.
I immediatly started making plans for my second vette. I actually never thought I could afford a ZR-1 (sounds familiar?), but by now the prizes had come down. I still had to make some decicions as to what vette I should get. I could get a 96 LT-4 brand new for the prize of a used ZR-1.
Zr-1's have a bad rep with regards to performance. A lot of people think they are no big deal. They are just too heavy, expensive and not that fast even when modified, not faster than a LS-1 mod for mod, and definetly no match for the new ZO6.
And who can blame people with these opinions, I was one of them in the past. But let me tell you a stock Zr-1 is not too much of a big deal.. do some mods and you'll wake up the sleeping monster inside the BEAST. Trust me.. I also have a 01 red Z06 vette with some bolt ons... NO MATCH!
As you can see I did not leave it stock for long and one thing let to another.
![]() First I did the cat-back exhaust and headers, along with 3.73 gears, cold air box and ported intake. That was fast, but the power bug had already bitten me. Next came a Dry System from NOS set up for 125 shot. Man that was WILD!!
The Monster inside the Beast was AWAKE and FURIOUS on juice!, very impressive... but never fast enough!
![]() I raced it a few times, and realized that to be with the TOP DOGS, I had to become one myself. So I ported the heads, added bigger throttle body, went to 3.92 gears, changed to a 3" exhaust, redegred the cams, and added a Direct Port Fogger system as a second stage.
Let me tell you this thing with both satages of Nitrous is scarey!... It definetly gets my adrenaline pumping just by opening the N2O bottle and knowing what I'm about to experience!!
As 2-02 the motor has been upgraded to a 368 cid. Never fast enough!!

Thank you for dropping by, and if you are looking for a Vette, don't get fooled by some of the negative comments you hear about ZR-1s, and most definetly don't believe that the LT-5 motor is no big deal when compared to today's small blocks... Those 32V BREATHE and Breathe hard!!.. I just don't want you to find out the wrong way....
