![]() This is my third midyear and my sixth corvette. I was building a blown, tubbed '69 SS Camaro when the Vette urge resurfaced. I very much regretted selling my last '67 big block roadster & deep down I knew that I had to get another one. One morning my wife said to me "why are you building that camaro? You'll never be happy until you get another Vette". She was right. I sold the Camaro three weeks later & began my quest to find another Midyear. I actually saw this '67 parked in front of a store when I had my last one. I remember saying to myself "Hey, another big block '67". I saw it a few more times but didn't think much of it. When I started looking for another midyear, about 10 years later, I never thought that this would be the one that I would own. The Camaro was gone and now began the search. It started out being fun and exciting looking for that new toy then, over the next year and a half, it started to get tedious and frustrating. I was looking in the fixer upper range, which if you've been there you know what kind of cars are out there. It seemed like every solid car was either already sold or a farce. I scanned the internet, local papers, non local papers, Hemmings etc. Ever notice that when you're looking for something they're never there & when you're not looking they're all over the place? Funny how it works like that. It seemed that every car that was available was across the country. I was very weary about buying a car site unseen over the phone or by pictures that were either sent or emailed. One day I passed the store where I saw that '67 & thought "I wonder if.....Naw, that was about 10 years ago". About a week later I decided to give the store a call to see if anyone there knew anything about that "old Corvette". I talked to the girl that answered the phone & she said that she knew of the car & that the person that owned it was the owners sister. She also said that she (the sister) still owned the car & was still in the area. I starting to get a little excited here so I asked her if she knew anything about the car, engine size, does it still run etc. She said that she had no idea but apparently she (the owner of the car) was in the process of moving out of the area. The lady said that she would give my number to the owner so that he could give me some more info. A few days had gone by and I never got a call. All I could think about was this car. I decided to call the store & asked for the owner. He got on the line and told me that yes his sister owned the car, still had it & was very seriously thinking about selling it but had not yet placed an ad. He told me that his sister had owned the car for 20 something years and that the car was originally a big block car. He said that apparently the original motor had three two's but was long gone. The car now had some sort of "racing motor" and tranny. He also mentioned that the car had front and rear flairs. (that was the only part that bummed me out). I asked him some more questions about the car but he didn't seem very Vette informative. He said that his sister was out of town for the rest of the week (it was a tuesday)and that he would have her call me when she got back. I thanked him, trying my hardest not to sound excited, and eagerly awaited her call. The next three or four days seemed like weeks. It was so hard to concentrate on anything except what this car all about. When she finally called I tried my hardest to sound just mildly interested. She told me that yes the car was originally a 435 horse car but the original motor was gone. It now had a pumped up LS6 (which I found out later to be stock) crate motor & an M22 tranny. She said that it was finally time for her to let the car go. She was moving out of the area & could use the cash for her new house. To be cont.......
![]() The new heart. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3" 304 Stainless exhaust We used 3" 304 S.S. tubing, mandrel bent 45's & 90's to do the exhaust. We decided to hold off on the cross over tube until all of the tuning & tweeking is done for ease of working on the car. The exhaust took us about 9 hours to do, but it came out pretty good. We went through the crossmember (unmodified) & I flared each side in two places to so that the exhaust can be removed from the car. I use S.S. band clamps on the flares. The only place that I have to be careful when driving are speed bumps & some driveway entrances. The only place that it ever scrapes are on the headers & not the pipes. I have to give a big thanks to my buddy Brian McD. for doing all of the welding & helping me map out the routing for the pipes.
